Family Friendly

The range of elegant and practical new homes at Manor Gardens have been designed to suit the lifestyles of busy families but will also attract couples and single people, particularly those looking for space to entertain family and friends.

Built to meet your needs

We choose the locations for our family friendly homes with care, ensuring that they are within easy reach of local shops, services, schools and transport links.

The kitchen is the heart of the home, so we make sure that there is plenty of room for the family to enjoy informal meals, to supervise homework whilst preparing meals and to relax over a drink with friends.

It’s easy to imagine families gathering in our generously proportioned drawing rooms – light and airy by day and cosy and warm in the evenings.

Bathrooms and en-suites are luxurious, with the latest, stylish, fixtures and fittings and each house provides access to a private garden, with enough space to host barbecues and summer parties and for the children to play safely.

A sense of community

With a select number of elegant, aspirational new homes set within leafy, green, communal gardens, the new homes at Manor Gardens will attract like-minded home buyers, generating neighbourhood pride and a strong sense of community.

Excellent educational opportunities

Shiplake’s primary school, with an on-site nursery, was rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted whilst the nearest secondary school, Gillotts in Henley, achieved an ‘Excellent’ rating.

There’s also a good choice of high achieving private schools locally, including Shiplake College, an independent day and boarding school in the village, Rupert House for 3- to 11-year-olds in Henley, The Abbey School for Girls, just south of Reading, The Reading Blue Coat School in Sonning and Queen Anne’s - a day and boarding school for girls in Caversham.

Sporting Facilities

In Shiplake, you’ll find everything from badminton and bowls to table tennis and lawn tennis.

The family friendly Shiplake Tennis Club welcomes new members and golfers will enjoy one of Oxfordshire’s finest courses at Henley Golf Club.

The Shiplake Village Bowling Club is located next to the Memorial Hall Playing Fields and Shiplake FC, affiliated with Oxfordshire FA, fields under 14 and under 16 teams.

The Vikings Rowing Club, Henley Sailing Club and Shiplake Angling Club all take advantage of the attractive stretch of the River Thames.

Clubs and Activities

Living in Shiplake, you’ll never be short of things to do.

The Memorial Hall hosts yoga, Pilates, T’ai Chi, Qigong and stretch classes as well as the Women’s Institute Meetings and presents the annual pantomime performed by members of the Shiplake and Dunsden Dramatic Organisation.

Once a month, the Book Club meets at the Baskerville whilst the Tuesday Art Group takes place in members’ homes.

There’s a children’s Sunday club at the church and an active Scout group in the village.

Annual events in Shiplake

One of the highlights of the local, family friendly, event calendar is the annual Wargrave and Shiplake Regatta held at the beginning of August and featuring races for skiffs, punts, and canoes. Of course, for racing of an international standard, there’s Henley’s Royal Regatta, held each July.

The Binfield Heath Flower Show, which celebrated its 75th anniversary in August 2024, attracts visitors from all over Oxfordshire and beyond.

One festival not to be missed is the exclusive, boutique, black tie Henley Festival, which takes place over five days, celebrating the best of UK and international music and arts. Henley’s Rewind South Festival, held at Temple Island Meadows, takes you back in time, being the first – and now the biggest – 80s music festival in the country.

During December, Henley holds its Living Advent Calendar event, based on Swedish idea which sees a different door or window opened at 6.15 pm each night during advent, which is followed by a 30 minute performance of songs, carols, music, poetry, book excerpts, folklore, sketches or dance - all with a Christmas theme.
